Schumer on Fox News and more...

Hi All,

Below are talkers on Fox News, the President’s Budget, and Norfolk Southern. There is also links to Leader Schumer’s floor remarks from this morning and tweets from Leader Schumer and Senate Democrats.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

  1. Talkers on Speaker McCarthy Empower Fox News to Spread the Big Lie

  • January 6th was a violent insurrection, full-stop, and the attempts to downplay it are insulting and a threat to our democracy.

  • Speaker McCarthy has disgraced his position by sticking his head in the sand and refusing to denounce Fox News’ coverage of the insurrection. Even more – he is fanning the flames of these pernicious lies by releasing security footage to Tucker Carlson.

  • Just last week, it came out that Robert Murdoch, owner of Fox News, admitted in a deposition that hosts of the network promoted the false narrative that Donald Trump won the 2020 election.

  • Murdoch admitted that he could have put a stop to the propaganda and lies, but chose not to.

  • Senators from both sides of the aisle – including Leader McConnell – have called out Fox News for lying.

  • By remaining silent, Speaker McCarthy is empowering Tucker Carlson’s lies. The Speaker is outing himself as a January 6th denier.

  • What Tucker Carlson and other Fox News anchors have done is flat-out dangerous, and as MAGA Republican Congressmen continue to feed into the Big Lie and election denialism, all of them must held accountable.

  1. Talkers on the President’s Budget

  • President Budget released his budget this morning with his revolutionary vision for the country.

  • His budget works hand-in-hand with Senate Democrats’ goals to lower costs for families, protect and strengthen Medicare and Social Security, and reduce the deficit by making the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share, cracking down on fraud, and cutting wasteful spending on Big Pharma, Big Oil, and other special interests.

  • While Republicans claim to care about fiscal responsibility, the first bill passed by the MAGA GOP in the House was to help wealthy tax-cheats. Contrasted with President Biden’s plan to lower the deficit by nearly $3 trillion.

  • This proposals builds on the good work that Senate Democrats accomplished in the Inflation Reduction Acts and lowers costs on everything from health insurance and prescription drugs to child care, housing, college and more.

  • The Democrats have shown what their priorities are. We have shown we are going to fight for middle and working class families. And that we will protect the hard-earned benefits of veterans and seniors. And still, Republicans refuse to put forward a plan.

  • Republicans in the House are considering proposals that would cut hundreds of billions from everything from the FBI, to things like Pell Grant eligibility and even Medicaid.

  • The American people deserve to know what the GOP plans to take from them. Speaker McCarthy needs to come clean with the American people and spell out, precisely, what cuts he plans and explain how these cuts will put the pain on average families.

  1. Talkers on East Palestine/Rail

  • The Senate is working to get to the bottom of what went wrong in East Palestine, OH, and last week, Senators Brown and Vance introduced the Bipartisan Railway Safety Act of 2023 to strengthens safety requirements for all trains carrying hazardous materials.

  • This morning, Norfolk Southern CEO Alan Shaw testified before the EPW Senate Committee.

  • We need to have a frank and honest discuss about the dangers of rail companies like Norfolk Southern maximizing profits at the expense of everything else—even people’s safety.

  • When former President Trump entered office, rail companies spent millions pushing for repeals on all sorts of safety regulations, from inspection requirements, mandates for newer brakes, and rules governing the number of employees required to operate a train.

  • While we can’t say exactly what caused this, Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans spent years systematically loosening regulations designed to prevent accidents like this.

  • Without regulation, accidents like this will keep happening because corporate greed places profits over people.

Leader Schumer + Senate Democrats Tweets – RT/Amplify

Senator Schumer: Today, @POTUS is laying down an optimistic vision for our country with his 2024 budget plan. His budget is a bold, optimistic, and serious proposal for strengthening our economy and creating opportunities to climb into the middle class, and help people stay there.

Senator Schumer: The President’s budget succeeds where Republicans have failed by presenting a realistic blueprint for lowering the deficit without cutting benefits Americans rely on. Speaker McCarthy—Come clean and spell out what cuts you're planning and how it will put pain on families.

Senator Schumer: Those of us who were here on January 6th know the attack was a violent insurrection—including Speaker McCarthy. Every leader on Capitol Hill has done the right thing calling out Fox News’s lies—except for Speaker McCarthy. The Speaker is outing himself as a January 6th denier.

Senator Schumer: The Senate has just confirmed Daniel Werfel to serve as IRS Commissioner. This is big news for the American people. With the IRS better staffed, more Americans can benefit from the tax benefits we approved through the Inflation Reduction Act and CHIPS and Science Act.

Senate Democrats (New Video feat. Sens. Klobuchar, Schumer, Baldwin, Blumenthal, Shaheen, Cortez Masto, Cantwell, Hassan, Hirono, Murray, Stabenow): On #InternationalWomensDay, @SenateDems introduced the Women’s Health Protection Act to codify reproductive freedoms into federal law. Watch our members lay out why this bill is so important:

Senate Democrats (New Video feat. Senator Baldwin): “This bill is not just a political exercise. It is a necessary response to a very real crisis.” Women’s Health Protection Act sponsor @SenatorBaldwin lays out the importance of this critical health care legislation:

Senator Sherrod Brown: Time to fix the broken system that has allowed corporations like Norfolk Southern to exploit Ohio communities. https://t.co/9UHx0YI9mO

Senator Patty Murray: .@POTUS’s budget is a roadmap for a stronger America that puts working people—not billionaires and giant corporations—first, and sets our country up to thrive in the decades to come. Click here to read my full statement: https://t.co/6TZU0shGIz

Senator Tom Carper: Today @POTUS laid out a budget that will continue to ease the burdens of hardworking families, including lowering health care costs and cutting the deficit by nearly $3 trillion over the next 10 years.

Senator Debbie Stabenow: Americans work their whole lives and pay into Medicare with the promise it will be there for them when they need it. @POTUS' budget will strengthen Medicare, while Republican plans want to privatize it and raise the age to 70.

Senator Debbie Stabenow: .@POTUS’ budget strengthens the great American success stories of Medicare and Social Security! Our vision for America invests in people and their communities.

Senator Chris Van Hollen: When Republicans talk about the deficit, they talk about slashing investments important to American families. That's a nonstarter. @POTUS’ budget would cut the deficit nearly $3T by ensuring the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share so we can invest in the success of all Americans.

Senator Chris Van Hollen: Investing in affordable childcare means investing in our future AND our economy — allowing more parents to enter the workforce & earn a good living to support their families. https://t.co/hrBjpjtWeq

Senator Tammy Duckworth: Shoring up Medicare

Investing in families

Reducing the deficit

Ensuring ultra-wealthy pay their fair share

Meanwhile, Republicans are set to do the exact opposite. Today's budget once again proves Democrats will keep putting working families first.
